DPSI English Law Romanian 2004
I was appalled to discover some horribly inaccurate translations in the Romanian sight translation of the English Law DPSI examination in 2004.
Magistrates’ Court was translated into Romanian (in the examination papers that candidates had to translate FROM during their exam!) as Civil Court.
bailiff was translated as “portarel” - a word from the communist era of the Romanian legal system, which has been changed since 1993 in the Romanian legal vocabulary, LEGE NUMAR: 59 DIN 23/07/93 pentru modificarea Codului de procedura civila, a Codului familiei, a Legii contenciosului administrativ nr. 29/1990 si a Legii nr. 94/1992 privind organizarea si functionarea Curtii de Conturi. The correct translation being “executor judecatoresc”.
offer - as in “offer to buy a house” was translated as “application”
and the word “complete”, in the Romanian translation, was spelled “complect” which shows complete and utter lack of basic Romanian spelling.
